• Implementation of itgain’s DB2 Tools by the GAD

Assignment of Tasks
The GAD, an IT-service provider, maintains several hundred UNIX-based DB2-Databases that are in use across dispersed data processing centers. The GAD continuously monitors and reviews its many databases with the goal of optimizing their performance. After reviewing the existing performance software included with DB2, the GAD realized it needed additional software to analyze the cause of problems and to provide rapid solutions.
The Solution
The GAD had already begun developing a remedy for their monitoring requirements when it contacted itgain for the solution. “Speedgain for DB2” perfectly matched the GAD’s needs. Compared with the products of larger vendors, itgain’s Speedgain offered the “most far-reaching and complete solution” without all the useless “bells and whistles.” It was competitively priced and, most importantly, the GAD’s experience with itgain’s DB2 experts, who offered helpful tips and support for unique DB2 questions, had been excellent.
In Detail

Monitoring: Speedgain database monitoring for DB2 stores information regarding availability, performance speed and usage of the database systems.

SQL-Workbench: The Workbench clarifies the causes of poor performance. This tool shows the user those areas where performance can be improved.

User Advantages

In the GAD’s opinion, Speedgain is self-explanatory. The product does not take the DB administrator’s expertise for granted and ensures that little effort is required of them to obtain quick results.

Quick problem analysis: The causes of problems are identified more quickly than with alternative options.

Problem solving assistance: Speedgain provides immediate assistance with database performance problem solving.

Easy and uncomplicated: Meaningful and effective results are delivered quickly and simply.

The User

Hans Piehler, responsible for UNIX-Databases in the GAD’s Production/Databases department states that, “Speedgain for DB2 has set itself apart from its competition. It is obvious when using the software that itgain with its considerable experience knows exactly what problems the DB2 administrators are facing. Our conclusion is that we have the made the right choice. Our expectations are completely filled, and we profit from a product that will consistently be enhanced.”
